OTYKEN
Otyken, a Russian Siberian-indigenous based music group, that uses a mix of modern day instruments in combination with their indigenous based instruments. They make songs by mixing their local folk music with modern, dance-styled, pop music.
Currently, as of 2026, the average modern day tribal band leans more toward a rock-n-roll sound. Making their tribal instruments electric, and transforming their songs with a rocker's edge. Not all of the bands do this. There are some bands that stick to their cultural styled songs, and to their credit, sound just as majestic and ear captivating as their original ancestors.
But Otyken, like a smaller number of tribal bands, have been leaning more toward a night club, urban dance, pop music type of sounds. Which brought on variations of songs, and all of them makes the audience want to dance and enjoy themselves, as opposed to the, 'stay still while enjoying listening to the music', environment.
Otyken has taken off to various countries all over the world, and even though they come from a distant nation, it's not just because they're Siberian. This band is a very ear catching, eye appealing, celebratory band. This is a band, that if they continue to play their cards right, there's nothing that's going to stop them as they gain more popularity. To be honest, it might be that no one's going to want them to be stopped. It feels like this band's always going to be welcomed at whatever city/town they venture to.
This brings me to my series of questions: Once every tribal band from all around the world learns of the success that can be achieved in this manner, are we going to be seeing modern day tribal bands following in Otyken's footsteps? Does anyone believe or feel that modern day tribal bands might have to, in order to achieve the same kind of success?
If they do, this means that modern day tribal music could be a wide spread of influence that would transform into another branch of the music industry. That is, if the tribal path hasn't already transformed into a commercial form, by today's times. But, industry operated or not, once the every tribal band starts following this path, and re-defines itself on it's own, would we be looking at a new form of 'new wave' music?
It's just something I'm throwing out there. Maybe this is all just, casual Discord conversation. Something for the kids to discuss while, on their videos games with friends. Or something to post on FB, giving something for us old people to talk about at 'the home'. Or as is traditionally done, here in my Lone Star State, converse about it around the bbq pit. Who knows?
Thank you for your time. :)
